Anu Anand and John Nash, two experienced competent authorities from Inland Revenue in New Zealand, ran an online workshop in December 2024 covering various aspects of international exchange of information (EOI) with a focus on the effective use of information received by tax administrations under the Common Reporting Standard (CRS).
The workshop covered the many developments in EOI initiatives over recent years, with a central focus on the deployment of the campaign approach to CRS data. Lessons learnt and best practices identified since New Zealand implemented the CRS in 2018 were also traversed.
The workshop was very well attended, with 126 participants from right across the globe. The overall takeaway was “offshore is no longer off limits”. Resources made available to participants at the end of the webinar comprised New Zealand’s Offshore Tax Transparency Strategy, Foreign Income Guide and Foreign Income Checklist (for tax agents). Given the clear benefits arising from EOI initiatives, the topic of International Tax Transparency will continue to feature on the forward training programme of CATA.
