Felix Tambulasi: Commissioner General MRA

The Malawi Revenue Authority has ushered in a bold new era with the appointment of Felix Tambulasi as Commissioner General, effective 27 October 2025. He becomes the youngest leader in the institution’s history, a defining moment that signals a shift toward dynamic, forward-looking public sector leadership. With a strong legal background and deep institutional knowledge, Tambulasi steps into the role with both credibility and momentum, having previously served as Director of Legal Services and Company Secretary for a decade.

His career reflects a blend of experience across public institutions and private practice, including roles at the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation and the Ministry of Finance. Upon assuming office, Tambulasi expressed humility and determination, acknowledging the solid foundation laid by his predecessors while committing to build on it. Widely regarded as a strategic thinker and results-driven leader, he is expected to steer MRA toward greater efficiency, stronger institutional capacity, and enhanced revenue performance.

He commences his first year with success by beating the FY2025/26 target by MK73 billion (USD41 million) This is driven by reforms in VAT management, Tax Stamps and cultural transformation and strong collections in VAT, CIT and Excise duties.

At the heart of his vision is a people-cantered approach to tax administration. Tambulasi has emphasized professionalism, teamwork, and above all, exceptional customer service as key drivers of success. He believes that trust between taxpayers and the Authority is essential for voluntary compliance, urging staff to treat every interaction as an opportunity to build confidence in the system. With a clear focus on innovation and service excellence, his leadership promises to energize MRA’s mission of driving sustainable revenue growth for Malawi’s development.
