MIRA Accelerates Digital Transformation with ADB-Funded E-Invoicing Initiative

As the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) approaches 16 years of dedicated service, MIRA is embarking on a monumental journey to modernize the national tax landscape through its E-invoicing initiative. supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). This initiative is identified as a key component of MIRA’s long-term digital transformation roadmap and is now a core pillar of the Strategic Plan 2025–2028, representing a major shift in MIRA’s role from a traditional enforcer to a facilitator, and advancing a seamless effortless taxation experience for all Maldivians.

The primary strategic objective driving this key initiative is to enhance taxpayer experience through simplification and efficiency by embracing digital innovations. This initiative is designed to integrate tax compliance directly into the natural business routines of taxpayers, reducing manual reporting and administrative work.

The expected outcomes of this initiative include enabling MIRA to access near real-time transaction data while providing taxpayers with more streamlined reporting mechanisms. This is expected to reduce compliance time and costs, while supporting a more efficient and transparent tax environment.
Following the successful completion of the inception mission from 21 June to 02 July 2026 the project now proceeds into its next critical phase, marking a vital transition in catalyzing MIRA’s vision for a facilitative and digitally integrated tax system.
